Mairi-Luise Tabbakh is a British photographic artist born in Croydon to an Arab father and Scottish mother. Raised within a culturally rich and visually attentive environment, she developed an early passion for the arts. As a teenager, she began experimenting with her father’s Olympus film camera, drawn to the immediacy and intimacy of capturing human presence through the lens.
Tabbakh first exhibited in a group show in Paris before gaining significant attention with “Human Relations,” a two-person exhibition alongside Fenton Bailey at Imitate Modern in London. Curated by Sascha Bailey, the exhibition presented a monochromatic exploration of erotic photography and launched to strong critical and collector interest. The show marked her London debut and led to acquisitions by prominent collectors including Damien Hirst. Additional collectors of her work include Marco Pierre White, Lord Bath, and Derek Chisora.
Tabbakh’s photographic practice centers on the sensual and psychological dimensions of human relationships. Her work captures the raw, unguarded essence of the female subject, exploring intimacy, vulnerability, and eroticism through a distinctly female gaze. The tension between objectification and authorship becomes a central conceptual thread—her position as both woman and image-maker introduces a nuanced dialogue around power, desire, and agency.
Working primarily in photography, often with a restrained monochromatic aesthetic, Tabbakh emphasizes mood, gesture, and emotional charge. Her images have been featured in international publications and exhibited in group exhibitions in London and Paris. Her work is held in several notable private collections.
