Dolly Faibyshev is an American photographer based in New York City whose work explores the mythology and contradictions of the American Dream. With a distinct sensitivity to color, composition, and the human condition, Faibyshev examines aspirational culture and constructed identity across the American landscape.
Born to Russian immigrants, Faibyshev grew up absorbing a vicarious fantasy of America—an ideal shaped by spectacle, excess, and reinvention. Her photographs investigate these cultural fictions through subjects ranging from the primped models of New York Fashion Week to the meticulously groomed competitors at national dog shows, to Dolly Parton impersonators, WrestleMania performers, the preserved nostalgia of Palm Springs, and the manufactured icons of Las Vegas. Through humor and sharp observation, her work reveals the tension between performance and authenticity embedded within contemporary American life.
Faibyshev is a self-taught photographer whose work has been published in The New Yorker, Le Monde, TIME, The New York Times, Businessweek, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, W Magazine, and other international publications. She has exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, including presentations at The Untitled Space, White Columns, The Museum of the City of New York, Slow Culture, The Momentary, and Fotografiska (Shanghai, Stockholm, Tallinn, and New York), as well as participation in art fairs including Material Art Fair.
