Sarupa Sidaarth (Indian, b. 1976) is a California-based painter whose work explores ornamentation, social consciousness, and the philosophy of peaceful coexistence through an intuitive and emotionally driven practice. Drawing from cultural symbolism and decorative traditions, her paintings examine contemporary social issues while emphasizing interconnectedness, resilience, and collective humanity. She works from her studio in Belvedere Tiburon, California.
Sidaarth holds a BFA from Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai and an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In 2014, she was selected for the prestigious Golden Foundation Residency in New York and participated in NordArt in Germany. Her early accolades include the K.K. Modi Fellowship and the PASCA Scholarship in France (2011). She has also received distinction through the NCWCA Mentorship Program, First Prize at Brea Gallery’s MICA, the Frey Foundation Grant, and multiple awards at the Academy of Art Annual Exhibition.
Her paintings have been included in group exhibitions at SFMOMA Artists Gallery, 33 Contemporary, RJD Gallery, JanKossen Contemporary, and Site:Brooklyn. Her work was recently selected for The Peregrine Collection, a permanent time capsule of artworks sent to the moon as part of The Lunar Codex in collaboration with Astrobotic Technologies under NASA’s Artemis Program — marking a historic milestone in her career. She has additionally exhibited extensively throughout India, Europe, and the United States.
Her work has been featured in multiple exhibitions at The Untitled Space in New York, including “UPRISE” (2017), “ART4EQUALITY X LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS” Group Exhibition + Public Art Series in collaboration with SaveArtSpace (2020), “UNTITLED” A Group Show of Contemporary Portraiture (2021), and “WE ARE WOMEN” (2024).
