Ashley Chew (b. Chicago, IL) is a visual artist based in New York, NY. Her multidisciplinary practice bridges fine art, fashion, sports, and culture through visually striking, narrative-driven work. Working across both fine art and commercial formats, Chew seamlessly translates her visual language across campaigns, product design, physical space, film, and digital platforms.
Chew works across painting, illustration, murals, installations, dye processes, leather goods, hand-lettering, and silkscreening. At the core of her fine art practice is a sustained exploration of rest, regality, resilience, and visibility among marginalized communities. Her large-scale figurative works present moments of pause and dignity as a direct counterpoint to trauma-centered narratives often depicted in mass media. Through vibrant acrylic palettes and carefully rendered details—from towering up-dos and elongated braids to ethereal afros—her figures inhabit lush forests, serene coastlines, and radiant sunsets, centering leisure and empowerment as radical acts of representation.
Her work has been featured in "She's Gotta Have It," directed by Spike Lee, and exhibited throughout New York City and Los Angeles. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Chew’s clients and partnerships include Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Nike, Converse, Alice + Olivia, supergoop!, Zadig & Voltaire, The North Face, PUMA, Kipling, Beyond Yoga x The US Open, Topshop Topman, Billionaire Girls Club, The Honey Pot Company, Bumble Bizz, ENVSN Fest, Hotel Chocolat, Dress For Success, Color Of Change, Midwest Fashion Week, and more. Milk Studios previously named Chew "Artist of The Week."
She has held artist talks with The New York Times, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, FCDA in Lagos, Nigeria, and Columbia University.
Chew has participated in numerous exhibitions with The Untitled Space in New York, including "UPRISE 2025: The Art of Resistance" 10th Anniversary Group Show, "The INNOVATE Exhibit" (2021), "WE ARE WOMEN" (2021), and "ART4EQUALITY X LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" Group Exhibition + Public Art Series (2020).
