Assuming the moniker Petite Doll, Giulia Grillo identifies as both a photographer and graphic designer. Her surrealist language is free from reason: it takes the photographic medium out of its conventional objective role, offering bizarre realities that often welcome interpretation. Petite Doll distorts and bends the idea of beauty, fusing it with a sense of the grotesque. Working across a wide range of photographic fields, Grillo posits that an interesting image doesn’t need to reflect reality; rather, it escapes it.
