Megan Soderstrom, working under the name IMNOTSOD, is a visual artist from central California currently living and working in New York City. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from California State University of Long Beach. After working as a registered nurse for two years, where she encountered mortality, the grotesque, and the grace of tenderness on a daily basis, she began seeking an outlet for the feelings, visions, and moments that shaped her experience. She ultimately made the decision to change her career path and now works in the arts full-time.

Soderstrom began her artistic career by hiding her face behind a mask, symbolizing the release of self-imposed labels and societal ideas imposed upon us and the freedom to embrace our true, characterless, infinite spirit. Working primarily in oil, she creates paintings featuring realistic figures, typically women and animals, within imagined worlds and complex emotional landscapes. Her subject matter gravitates toward juxtaposition: resilience and fragility, the delicate and the forceful. Her work centers on the question of whether delicacy can also be a form of strength, and whether resilience and fragility might be two sides of the same coin.

Soderstrom hopes to create work that invites viewers to explore the mysteries embedded within each detail, layered with nuance and contradiction, and to look again at both the painting and themselves. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions and is held in private collections. She is currently furthering her education at the New York Academy of Art with a focus on painting.
