Arielle Tesoriero (b. 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in New York City. She has exhibited with Steven Zevitas Gallery, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), The Painting Center, and The Untitled Space. In 2022, she received the Kylemore Abbey Artist Residency in Ireland and was named a finalist for the New American Paintings Emerging Artist Grant. She was also recently awarded the Martha T. Rosen Memorial Scholarship from the Art Students League of New York.

Tesoriero’s work has been featured in publications including New American Paintings and The Untitled Magazine. She has exhibited across the United States and internationally and holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art.

Artist Statement: 

"Growing up, I became fascinated with the association between the feminine body and food in culture and art history. I noticed women around me, including myself, constantly consumed by others while simultaneously consuming themselves. I began to think of cake as a central image in my work because it represents reward, display, and curated perfection. When I first began this series, my cakes were trophies, representing my childhood as something defeated. But as my work progressed, I began to see my identity and cake as the same, reflecting how expectation, desire, and memory accumulate much like layers of a cake. I hand sculpt and life cast with materials such as silicone, wax, foam, plaster, and found objects, exploring the uncomfortable, the hyperfeminine, and the grotesque. My surreal figures represent selfhood as something that is continually consumed and remade." - Arielle Tesoriero
