Alexandra Rubinstein is a Brooklyn-based conceptual artist whose practice focuses on how culture, gender, and sexuality affect power. Reconstructing familiar and taboo images to create a new narrative, she challenges old social systems and prejudices, including within the art world, and transforms women from passive objects to active consumers. Aiming to regain control, without taking centuries of oppression too seriously. Alexandra came to the United States from Russia when she was 9, and spent the magical years of puberty enduring with the drawbacks of both cultures and the expectations they place on women. While in High School, she began taking art courses at Carnegie Mellon University, where she later earned her BFA. She has exhibited nationally including at The Untitled Space in New York City, Proto Gallery in Hoboken, La Bodega Gallery in Brooklyn, and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. She has been featured on Huffington Post, Paper Mag, Cosmopolitan, Juxtapoz, Hyperallergic, Forbes, GQ, Playboy, Broad City, as well as Real Time with Bill Maher. Her work is also currently on display at The Wing in Dumbo, Brooklyn, as well as The Wing in Washington D.C.
