Nick Rhodes is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer best known as the founder and keyboardist of the legendary pop band Duran Duran. A visionary both musically and visually, Rhodes has long fused his passion for sound and image, cultivating a career that intersects the worlds of art, fashion, and popular culture.
A former art student, Rhodes became captivated by the contemporary art world early in his rise to fame, forming close ties with iconic figures such as Andy Warhol and members of The Factory. In 1984, he published Interference, a book of experimental abstract photography that marked the official beginning of his visual arts career. The photographs were later exhibited at the Hamilton Gallery in London, and since then, his artwork has continued to evolve in tandem with his musical legacy.
Rhodes’ photography has been featured in numerous exhibitions internationally, including several group shows at The Untitled Space gallery in New York. His work was notably exhibited in the gallery’s critically acclaimed INNOVATE exhibit (2021), as well as UPRISE 2025: The Art of Resistance, celebrating politically engaged contemporary artists. His photographs have also been showcased in The Untitled Magazine, including original shoots of Charli XCX for the “Music” Issue (2013), The Bloom Twins for the “Legendary” Issue (2014), Wendy Bevan’s Astronomia for the “INNOVATE” Issue (2021), and Lottie Moss for the “REBEL” Issue (2022).
In addition to his work in visual art, Rhodes remains an integral creative force in music. As a founding member of Duran Duran, he helped define the visual and sonic aesthetics of the 1980s and beyond. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide, earned multiple Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, and Ivor Novello Awards, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Known for their cinematic music videos and avant-garde sensibility, Duran Duran continues to tour and release music to critical acclaim.
Rhodes' unique photographic language—often characterized by surreal abstraction, saturated tones, and a sense of mystery—reflects the same fearless innovation that defines his music. Whether behind a synthesizer or a camera lens, he continues to push boundaries, crafting a multidimensional narrative that challenges convention and celebrates the art of reinvention.
