Sarupa Sidaarth (Indian, b.1976) studied at Sir J.J. School of Art and received her MFA at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Her studio practice flows predominantly from an intuitive and emotional approach. Inspired by ornament, her latest body of work explores social issues through the examination of creative and artistic practices. She engages in a thought-provoking dialogue and emphasizes on the idea of peaceful coexistence. Her work has been exhibited extensively in India, Europe and the United States, including at the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series San Francisco, group exhibitions at RJD Gallery, Jan Kossen Contemporary in New York, as well as group show UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN at The Untitled Space. In 2014 she attended the Golden Foundation Residency in New York and participated in NordArt, Germany. Her achievements include NCWCA Mentorship Program 2019, First prize at Brea Gallery’s MICA 2018, Frey Foundation Grant and multiple awards at the Academy of Art Annual Exhibition. She additionally won the K.K. Modi Fellowship and Pasca scholarship to France. She currently works from her studio in Belvedere Tiburon, California in the United States.
