Jacob Hicks is a Brooklyn based oil painter, educator, critical writer and independent curator. His paintings have been exhibited extensively both in the states and internationally. He has shown with the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin, with Art Miami and Art New York fairs through the New York Academy of Art, as well as with a gallery in London, to name a few. He received a New Hope Arts W. Paul Beckwith Emerging Artist’s Grant and a travel grant through Southern Methodist University to study at the Prado. He has completed residencies with the Saltonstall Foundation in Ithaca, NY and the Terra Foundation in Giverny, France. His work has been published by Rizzoli Press in The Figure: Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture, by The Wild Magazine in their Bestiary Edition, and by ArtMaze Magazine. He has been accepted for a residency and internship with FOGO Island Arts for late 2021. Currently, Hicks works as an educator for the Children’s Museum of the Arts and Manhattan Youth, teaching kids about illustration, graphic novels, and the basics of painting and drawing.
